Mission Statement
The Mission of the Brighter Tomorrow Foundation is to benefit people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in Montgomery County by promoting housing, education, recreation, adaptive devices, and to oversee other designated requests. The foundation raises funds and receives donations, gifts, or devises of cash, personal property or real property from private citizens and/or organizations and awards grants to support this mission.
As our Articles of Incorporation state, it is the Purpose of the BTF to:
See that donations, gifts or devises are used for the designated purposes intended by the donor whether the designated purpose is to financially assist the Montgomery County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities or to financially assist other citizens with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities with approved projects;
Retain, sell, mortgage, lease, invest or reinvest any real estate, tangible or intangible asset so received so as to effect the purposes, aims and goals of the designated purposes of the donor;
Toward the goal of fulfilling its mission, The Brighter Tomorrow Foundation (BTF),
offered Request for Proposals for FY 2006/2007 for competitive grants that address
the needs of organizations that serve persons with Mental Retardation and/ or
Developmental Disabilities. Proposals addressed needs in the following priority areas:
Housing
Arts/Recreation
Technology
Advocacy
Employment
Public Education
Historically, the Foundation has operated a small grant program for community-based
organizations (generally distributed on a quarterly basis) and has provided larger awards
in the form of matching support for the acquisition of housing to meet the residential
needs of adults with mental retardation. This RFP cycle represents a new approach by
the Foundation. It reflects our interest in increasing the amount and level of support we
provide to organizations that serve the MR/DD population in Montgomery County.
Through this RFP, we are proactively seeking to invest resources and establish strategic
alliances with organizations that share our purposes in the hope that together we can
generate creative responses to the many challenges facing consumers with developmental
disabilities. We anticipate that this new process will become the major mechanism by
which we support community projects.
